The IELTS Reading Tests app offers a comprehensive overview of the Reading section, divided into three distinct subsections. It features model practice test papers accompanied by detailed solutions.
The Academic Reading test lasts for a total of 60 minutes.
Within the test, there are three sections comprising a total text length of 2,150 to 2,750 words:

- The texts are authentic, sourced from books, journals, magazines, and newspapers, specifically tailored for a non-specialist audience and covering topics of general academic interest.
- The texts are suitable and accessible for test-takers preparing for undergraduate or postgraduate study or aiming for professional registration.
- The material ranges from descriptive and factual to discursive and analytical.
- Non-verbal materials such as diagrams, graphs, or illustrations may accompany the texts.
- A glossary is provided for any technical terms present in the texts.
Question types include a diverse array selected from:

- Identifying the writer’s views/claims
- Matching information
- Matching headings
- Matching features
- Matching sentence endings

The IELTS Academic Reading practice test allows one hour to complete all three sections. The parts of this practice reading test are presented across three separate web pages, encouraging efficient transitions to maintain a realistic testing atmosphere.
Candidates are advised to time themselves strictly to adhere to the one-hour limit for completing all three sections. The practice paper consists of 40 questions, each worth one mark. Those preferring an offline format can download the test paper together with a blank answer sheet.
Instructions for candidates during the actual test typically include:
- Do not open this question paper until instructed.
- Write your name and candidate number in the designated spaces at the top of the page.
- Carefully read the instructions for each part of the paper.
- Answer all questions provided.
- Write your answers on the answer sheet using a pencil.
- You must complete the answer sheet within the allocated time limit.
- At the end of the test, you will be required to submit both the question paper and your answer sheet.
